Taking pottery classes in Arkansas are a great way to learn about the state’s pottery heritage and to get your hands dirty with a new hobby. Arkansas is home to a number of pottery traditions, including the Native American pottery of the Ozarks, the folk pottery of the Arkansas River Valley, and the contemporary studio pottery of the state. Pottery classes offer a chance to learn about all of these traditions and to try your hand at making your own pottery.
Classes typically cover the basics of pottery making, including clay preparation, shaping, and glazing. You will also have the opportunity to try out different firing techniques, such as Raku and pit firing. Most pottery classes are taught by experienced potters who can share their knowledge and love of pottery with you. Classes are typically small, so you will have plenty of individual attention. And, since pottery making is a messy business, be sure to wear old clothes or bring an apron.

Arkansas Craft School
The classes offer a lot of techniques for creating beautiful and functional pottery. It’s an 8 week workshop and it’s not always available so you should check their website from time to time. Hand built and wheel thrown pieces will be part of the experience of taking a lump of clay through all the necessary steps from greenware to a finished glazed work of art. At the end of the class, the materials will be weighed and charged.
